NEW: Adaptive RAGBRAI Team!
The Iowa Sports Foundation has formed the Adaptive Sports Iowa RAGBRAI team. According to The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) officials, they’ve never had an organized adaptive team participate in RAGBRAI. Though many handcyclists have taken part in the event over its 39 years, there has not been an organized team focusing specifically on the needs of the physically disabled community. The team is comprised of 21 people (8 handcyclists, 1 visually impaired cyclist, 2 pilots for the tandem cycle, 3 support drivers, 6 volunteers, and the team leader). The majority of the team will be riding the whole week. You can follow the team’s progress through training and the ride at www.adaptivesportsiowa.org. If RAGRAI is going through your town or close by, you might want to go see them to cheer them on. Support for the Adaptive Sports Iowa RAGBRAI team has been provided by the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Iowa, Advanced Rehab Technologies, Iowa Health Systems, Live Healthy America, and the Iowa Food and Family Project.
